The Dallas Sumo Club has secured sponsorship from global gamefi startup, Yokozuna Finance as presenting sponsor of this weekend’s inaugural Cowboy Cup amateur sumo tournament.
The “Cowboy Cup Sumo Open presented by Yokozuna Finance” sumo tournament will take place at FitCon Dallas, Saturday, June 11th at the Panther Island Pavilion venue in the city of Fort Worth. The event features men’s and women’s amateur sumo bouts in several weight divisions from 12:00 to 4:00 PM Central Standard Time. The event will also be streamed live online at Dallas Sumo Club YouTube site.
Yokozuna Finance, is a recently launched Play-to-Earn NFT (non-fungible token) game, loosely based on professional and amateur Sumo. Participants purchase, fuse and stake sumo themed NFT’s using ZUNA token at app.yokozuna.fi, allowing for monetization through a gamified play-to-earn experience. The platform is designed to educate and entertain sumo enthusiasts, as Yokozuna Finance participants own and stake NFT’s earning rewards and making decisions to support real life Sumo based initiatives like this weekend’s tournament.
Sumo, while often thought to be a purely Japanese sport, has significant international participation and global curiosity. The International Sumo Federation website indicates more than eighty-four (84) countries have sumo associations or federations, in addition to thousands of clubs. The Dallas Sumo Club (DSC), is one of five Texas based amateur Sumo clubs recognized by the International Sumo and United States Sumo Federations. Formed in 2021 by Oyakata, Corey Morrison, DSC offers free practice for beginners to advanced participants twice per week.
